About Flemingdon Park

Flemingdon Park is a community in Toronto bordered on the north by Eglinton Avenue East, on the west by the Don River (west branch), and on the east and south by the Don River (east branch).

Flemingdon Park is Canada's first completely planned "apartment city" - first proposed in 1958, it was completed in the early 1970's.

Flemingdon Park is a multicultural neighbourhood that has traditionally served as the first home for many new Canadians seeking affordable housing in the City of Toronto.

  • There are approximately 20,000 people living in Flemingdon Park speaking over 80 different languages.
  • 67% are immigrants and 23% are recent immigrants.
  • 1 in 3 live on a family income of less than $30,000 per year.
  • 39% of families have one parent - 87% of those are led by women.
  • 22% are children under the age of 14.
  • The population density is 15,627 people per square km compared with Toronto's 866 average.
  • The 2006 unemployment rate was 17.2%, as compared with 6.7% in the rest of Toronto.
